IDEAS: Integration and Demand-side Management

IDEAS is researching the optimal balance for the new integrated solar panel which will enable each PV panel to produce its own AC power (usually PV panels produce DC power which is converted into AC power which we use in our homes through a central inverter). There will also be energy storage built into each panel. This improves dispatchability and will provide new opportunities for demand side management of the PV power.

We are also developing state of the art monitoring tools which will enable the users of the buildings (and building systems managers) to analyse the performance of the system.

We are coordinating the development of these systems tools with the demands and practices of the building users so as to understand their concerns and perceptions and to perfect the ease of use of this novel building integrated system. We are also developing a smart App as a user interface providing a smooth dashboard and management/control experience for end users.

For communities, understanding the benefits of the system will be the main objective and for the IDEAS consortium the main objective will be to optimise and finalise our designs taking in the concerns of the users (communities and installers).

IDEAS aims to provide a fully integrated accessible whole-building system which will multiply  opportunities for energy saving and production at the medium-large scale building in urban and suburban environments.
